Final Words
“ Topside ” is a story of pauperism, rigors, and also the boons that we frequently take for granted. It shows us the despair of a mama, who isn't ready to accept the fact that her son would be better off without her. The stylish bits of the film are when the perspective of the youthful actor, Zhaila Farmer, playing Little, is shown to us. The camera moves as she tries to look at the world with interesting eyes. The shaky camera movements give us a raw feeling, and the harsh realities of an enduring world make you feel uncomfortable. In the end, you aren't suitable to decide whom to condemn. You aren't suitable to ascertain whether Nikki did the right thing or not. The system is the rescuer, and yet it's the reason some people have to live through life in similar deplorable circumstances.
Celine Held gets some influence and delivers a striking performance. It's always a great delight to watch an actor perform a piece that they've written themselves. She understands the character of Nikki, but “ Topside ” suffers from the vice of intemperance. The film gives a lot of room for the actors to express, and enunciate through their performances, what they're feeling, but it fails to bring out the substance of the issue at hand. Some scenes are harrowing, but cohesively, the film never fails to transude inside your core, as much as a film grounded on similar issues should have. You feel shamefaced and, at times, anguished by the demarcation of our society, but all that's evanescent, as “ Topside ” noway really excavates the deep dark issues and loses sight of the bigger picture ultimately. nonetheless, “ Topside ” is trouble in the right direction and is good of a watch.
